Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

I spent a few hours at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center   There are 19 Pueblos in New Mexico. http://www.indianpueblo.org/index.html

The Pueblo people are located primarily in New Mexico, however, at one time the Pueblo's homeland reached into the states of Colorado and Arizona. Pueblo people rooted in this region of the southwest are descendants of an indigenous Native American culture that has established itself over many centuries

The center has a wonderful museum.  There was traditional dancing in the courtyard.  First I had lunch in the cafe. I had my first of several meals with New Mexico Chile (Chili). It was wondeful. I liked the flavor of both the green and the red chile.  The red was generally hotter than the green.

Several of the dances were solo. The costumes are beautiful.

Other dances were group efforts.

In all cases, the beat of the drums kept time.

The walls of the courtyard were painted.

I took many other photos of the dancers.  Here are a few   Click on any of the thumbnail photos to see them larger.
