The second day of riding was 63 miles from Statesville to Thomasville. This was one of the more challenging days of the ride. Thomasville is the home of Thomasville Furniture. The center of town has the worlds largest chair. It turns out that several cities claim to have the World's Largest Chair. Thomasville is only one of them. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/set/CIVIchair.html The others are in Alabama, Washington DC, Massachusets, LA, and Italy. No photos today either. I found my camera in the lost-and-found at the end of the day.
The route description for the day:
Our next stop on Day 3 of the tour is Thomasville, North Carolina, home of the "Big Chair"! Music, food and a beverage garden await your arrival in the streets of Downtown Thomasville. Today’s route will steer you east along country back roads that offer little to no traffic and plenty of opportunities to settle in the saddle and enjoy the ride. We’ll pass through small North Carolina towns such as Mocksville, Cooleemee and even to the town of Welcome, North Carolina. The town’s motto is "Welcome to Welcome. A Friendly Place" as posted on the welcoming sign. Just on the eastern side of Welcome, you’ll find Lake Tom-A-Lex Park, one of the many great locations CNC has planned for a rest stop. This stop will provide you with the opportunity to get off the bike and relax. Add the picturesque lake views and lots of sunshine and you’ve got a perfect backdrop for this rest stop. Just a short ride from the lake is our final resting place for the day, the Children’s Baptist Home in Thomasville, North Carolina.
