I travelled to Kansas City and took a bus to the start of the ride. I had a great time and met some cyclists I've ridden with on future tours.
Bike Across Kansas is a ride of about 900 riders, divided into 3 groups. Each group has a different route and different overnight towns. That keeps the groups down to about 300 riders. The groups are named "B" "A" and "K". I rode with the "K" group

The Bike Across Kansas web site contains daily reports and photographs from the ride.

The first morning of the ride, we were driven in cattle cars to the Colorado / Kansas state line. I'm the rider climbing out of one in this photo:

My recollections of this ride are hills and wind and wheat. The hills were long slow grades. The wind came up from Texas and blew strong. I learned how to join a pace line from a group of cyclists 20 years older than myself. I could barely keep up with them. The wheat blew in "Amber Waves of Grain".
