The Old Kentucky Home Tour is sponsored by the Louisville Bicycle Club, see www.okht.org for details.
I travelled to Louisville Kentucky to participate in this 2 day ride. The ride leaves from a park in Louisville and heads to Bardstown. There are 3 choices in distance on the first day and one choice on the second day. Overnight in Bardstown is camping or motels. I chose the motel option. This is fabulous ride. The scenery is great. Bardstown was the home of Steven Foster.
I drove to Louisville on Friday afternoon. Joe and Peggy drove from Ohio as we planned to ride together. Saturday we had planned on riding the century route. Morning registration was slow so we opted for the 75 mile route instead. Riding the shorter route ended up being a good choice as the temperatures were in the upper 90s. Sunday's return was 55 miles.
Each of the rest stops had live music. The first stop on Saturday was Bluegrass.
Despite the warm temperatures, the day was beautiful.
Fortunately, Joe took a photo of me.
The overnight in Bardstown included a spaghetti dinner, a Civil War re-enactment, music, and burbon tasting.
We left after sunrise on Sunday morning.
No trip to Kentucky would be complete without passing by a tobacco farm.
The rest stop on Sunday was a huge cookie stop, with 100s of varieties. My kind of place. Music was hammered dulcimer.
I spent an extra night in Louisville and visited the Louisville Slugger factory and museum on Monday morning.
