RAGBRAI XXX

Highlights and Lowlights for the week

Photos

The photos below are from 2002.

This night we were packed rather closely in the campgrounds. Often we have more room to spread out. Ron and Matt ride fast. This night was unusual since they were among the last to arrive.

Eating is a big part of RAGBRAI. The local churches, fire departments, and schools often put on quite a feast. Around the table we find many members of Blazing Saddles: Joe, Lori, Paula, Josh, Donna, Glorie, John, Mike, Dave, and Tim.

We don't spend all week on a bike seat. Sometimes we get to try out some antique farm equipment. Joined by John and Paula I'm sitting on a nice red tricycle.

This was one of best displays of antique tractors we came on during 2002.

One never knows who you might meet during the week.

I can't pass up a view like this one.

Or a sunset like this one either.

We seem to take quite a few pictures of ourselves. I think it is all part of having a great week with freinds.

Everyone is waiting for us. We never know what kind of treats are available. . They girls were anxious to sell us Rice Krispy treats. http://www.kelloggs.com/cgi-bin/recipes/rcp_recipe.pl?p_rcp_nbr=47&p_grp_nbr=1

Not only is there food but entertainment is available in each town we pass through as well as each overnight town.

Joe gives this high rider a whirl. He did great until it was time to stop.

I think he was playing Innagodadavida Baby,

I go for the Taco in Bag myself.

Taking a break one afternoon. We're sitting outside the library where a number of us went in to use the internet, enjoy the air conditioning, and maybe even a short nap.

One of the RAGBRAI treats is a car wash conversion to showers. There is plenty of hot water and contrary to fable, wax is not a choice.

Coming in to town with 10,000 others on bicycles presents an unique challenge. Where are my friends camping tonight? This lamp post contains directions for the Quad City Cyclists, Pork Belly Ventures, and the US Air Force groups.

The official dipping of the front tire in the Mississippi River is an important  tradition on RAGBRAI.
